Tuesday Night Hours & Fee Change In April

Starting in April, the Club's Tuesday hours will be from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.  To compensate for this shortened opening time, the playing fee will be reduced to $3 for members and $5 for non-members.  This reduction in hours is necessary due to the low attendence and financial state of the Club.  The new Tuesday Club hours and playing fee schedule will start on Tuesday April 6. At the end of June, we will re-evaluate the situation and make adjustments as necessary.   See the letter below from our Club Treasurer  Sefton Boyar explaining why the shorten hours are necessary:

Hello, all.

Most of you are probably aware that for the last few years, the Concord Table Tennis Club has been going through some rough times, financially. But we are soldiering on, trying to provide our members with an opportunity to play table tennis four days a week at a high quality playing venue.

Our Tuesday’s attendance has been particularly low for quite a while now. We tried reducing the playing rate to $2 an evening to see if we could stimulate greater attendance. We did generate more participants, but we are losing far too much on Tuesdays to continue in that manner.

We currently pay $37 per hour for renting the gym. About 20 people have been attending on Tuesdays, providing us with about $40 in playing fees. Unfortunately, that is far below our rental expense of $111!

Starting April 1, playing fees for Tuesdays will be only $3 for members and $5 for non-members. We will be open for just two hours: from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. I know that many of you like to play for just a couple of hours. If you do, you won't find a less expensive way to play table tennis, at least around here.

We will evaluate the results of this experiment after June 30th . But we hope that we can generate enough revenue to meet the $37 per hour that we have to pay for rent.  Please provide any thoughts that you have to any of the Executive Committee. We are always seeking ideas to improve the operation of the club.
